TECHNIQUE IS THE FOUNDATION
Everything that you do (or hope to do!) on the flute is dependent on your technique. Having the tools to freely express your ideas and feelings through your music is what makes playing an instrument truly magical—and fun! There's no denying it, though—it's a lot of hard work! Building your technique requires you to listen carefully to your playing and learn from your mistakes. You must be patient, persistent, and dedicated to practicing well.
ENTER THE TECH SQUAD...
Each month we focus on a few technical aspects of your flute playing. A range of exercises that are designed to help you improve those techniques will be posted in the Tech Squad Library.
HERE'S WHAT YOU DO:

1.
CHOOSE YOUR EXERCISES
-
Explore the Tech Squad Library and play through as many of the exercises as you can

-
Take note of which exercises you find difficult (as well as which ones you find fun!)

-
Choose exercises that you think will challenge you to improve your technique (up to 4 per month)

2.
PRACTICE!
-
Choose a tempo that enables you to play through your exercises well, without any errors (slow and steady wins the race!)

-
Ask yourself: Am I playing with my best sound? With precise rhythm and clear articulation? With good hand position and posture? Can I make my next play-through of this exercise better than my previous take? How?
3.
RECORD AND SUBMIT
-
When you feel you've mastered your exercises to the best of your ability, prepare to video record a performance

-
You can record your exercises all together or periodically throughout the month

-
Submit your videos to Lindsay by email at fostersflutestudio@gmail.com
OTHER BENEFITS OF THE TECH SQUAD
PERFORM ON A REGULAR BASIS
We're in short supply of performance opportunities at the moment and performing (as well as preparing to perform) is a valuable skill that needs to be practiced!
PAIR TECHNOLOGY WITH MUSIC
There's no better time than the present to get comfortable using technology, and learning how to create virtual performances and share them with others could be the way of the future!
